Community Needs - MA Module 1.3

Counselling is not done in a social vacuum. The purpose of the Social Work module, comprised of a number of separate study units, is introduce the counsellor to the context of community issues, needs and assessments. The idea is not to train the candidate in social work as such, but simply to sketch the bigger context in which a community based peer counsellors work.

  • Description

    The student should use the content as background study in order to be skilled in counselling more effectively in relation to community needs. It will also aid the counsellor as in working in cooperation with other professionals such as psychologists and registered social workers.

    The self-evaluation questions should not be submitted for academic purposes, but used to gain a better understanding of the material. The final test is a multiple choice questionnaire that will be digitally marked and certified. The candidate is required to complete all the prescribed study units in this subject in order to qualify for the unit in social work.

    The focus of this study unit is on community needs and how to conduct an assessment. This will enable the counsellor to fully participate as counsellor in community issues.

    All certificates of work completed should be kept in a POE for final moderation when applying for the qualification.
